Built for people who run trade businesses
You got into the trades to fix things, build things, and do good work — not to spend your nights chasing invoices, juggling a paper schedule, or wondering which of the twenty “all-in-one” apps is actually worth paying for.
The Trade Owner helps owners of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, cleaning, landscaping, handyman, and other home service businesses choose the right software, tools, and systems to run a more profitable business — without wasting money on the wrong ones.
What you’ll find here
- Honest software comparisons. Scheduling, invoicing, CRM, and AI answering services, compared side by side for small crews — not enterprise companies.
- Free calculators. Tools that help you price jobs, set your hourly rate, and see what missed calls are really costing you.
- Practical business guides. How to start, price, insure, and grow a trade business.
- Tool and equipment picks. Gear that’s worth the money for working pros.
Who’s behind The Trade Owner
Hi, I’m Casey Ward, the founder of The Trade Owner.
I’m a software developer with a background in trading and analyzing financial markets. That combination taught me two things: how to test software carefully, and how to look at a business decision in terms of real numbers — cost, return, and risk.
I’m not a plumber or an electrician, and I won’t pretend to be one. What I bring is a different kind of hands-on experience: I sign up for the software myself, go through the trials, click through every screen, read the fine print on pricing, and build calculators so you can run the numbers for your own business. And I learn from the people who matter most — trade business owners who share what actually works on the job.
How we review products
- We use the product. Whenever possible, we sign up and test the software or tool ourselves, and we include real screenshots.
- We focus on small businesses. We judge every product by one question: is this right for a business with 1–20 people?
- We show the full cost. Setup fees, per-user pricing, contract terms, and add-ons — not just the price on the homepage.
- We keep things up to date. Software changes fast. We revisit our reviews and note when they were last updated.
- Money doesn’t buy rankings. We earn commissions from some links, but commissions never decide our recommendations. Read our full Affiliate Disclosure.
